About Us

What the heck is DASKEN?

Dasken is a combination of the names of my parents, Hadassah and Ken.

My studio is located in Pawtucket, Rhode Island at The Mills, a building home to many local artisans and small businesses. You'll find me there painting, creating jewelry or making stained glass. My primary focus in the last few years has been stained glass, but I also make time to paint on a daily basis.

If you'd like to visit the studio, please be in touch. I share a studio with my husband, silkscreen artist James Polisky and our space is located on the first floor at 545 Pawtucket Avenue in Pawtucket, RI.

How did you get started?

I have LOTS of interests and it was a bumpy path before I ended up a fine arts major at Brandeis University. After college I moved from the east coast to San Francisco, CA and tried to find my footing there but eventually moved back to Boston. I returned to Brandeis for a brief post-bac program, worked in a variety of interesting jobs (including VP for a market research firm), started a graduate program in Arts Administration at Boston University and dabbled in lots of other areas of work... all the while, I was staying up late at night working on various art projects.

In 2012, I decided to take a risk and branch out on my own as a full-time artist.

What's your typical week like?

During the week, I'm in the studio and on weekends throughout most of the year, I shift gears and pack up my tent, tables and newest work and travel to sell my art at festivals throughout New England. It's an honor and a labor of love being able to create art by hand and then interact directly with people who appreciate and value the effort and work that goes into each piece.

I love what I do and I hope you do too.

Thank you so much for supporting HANDMADE!
